Frances Brooks

Mrs. Frances Petterson Brooks, 87, a resident of The Bridge and a long time resident of Ladue Manor, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brooks will be conducted Monday, May 29, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Phillip Wright and Reverend Art Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 until 8: 00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Shelby County native was the daughter of the late Simon Gustauf and Ethel Lorvola Puckett Petterson Stephens Stocking. Mrs. Brooks was adopted and raised by paternal uncle and aunt, Bertill Carl and Hortense Petterson, and Sally Wihema Petterson Workman. Mrs. Brooks was the widow of George Chester Brooks, Sr. She was a registered nurse in the United States Army. She was a 1942 graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Nursing at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduation she joined the American Red Cross. In 1942, Mrs. Brooks entered the Army and was commission Second LT in the Army Nurse Corps. She was active in the nursing profession until the age of 81, when she retired. Mrs. Brooks was a past president of the BPW and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant. She was a charter member of the American League Post 10 of Mt. Pleasant and a University of Tennessee Alumni. Mrs. Brooks served many charities and organizations in the area. She served many years as the bookkeeper and office manager for Brooks Farms.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Ray Doris Jean Williams, Mrs. Andy Lou Ellen Earl both of Columbia, TN, George C. Bonnie Brooks, Jr. of Cross Bridges, Carl L. Lynn Brooks and Edward H. Jannie Brooks both of Mt. Pleasant, TN ; grandchildren, Mrs. Rodney Alicia Hardison of Culleoka, TN, Jonathan Mark StephanieBrooks of Rome, GA, Kevin Sarah Brooks , Burton Brooks and Jill Hamilton Brooks all of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Mrs. Jonathan Jennifer Lou Ward, Daniel Ray Williams, Andrew Riley Earl, George Zackary Earl and Hanna Brooks Earl all of Columbia, TN; two great-grandchildren, Carson Lee Brooks of Columbia, TN and Belle Anna Brooks of Rome , GA.

Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Hardison, Stephanie Brooks, Sarah Brooks, Jonathan Ward, Dr. Thomas Dake, Staff of The Bridge, members of the First United Methodist Church and Tony Brawner.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant to the major maintenance project, 202 South Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.
