World War II Veteran France M.C. Polston, age 92 of Spring Hill, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Columbia, TN.
France was the fifth of nine children born November 30, 1920 in Andersonville, TN to the late Rev. Rufe Polston and the late Siotha Harmon Polston. He served honorably in the United States Army in the 563rd Field Artillery Unit- 89th Division, 3rd Army. After receiving his honorable discharge March 29, 1946, France married the “love of his life” Selma June Wood Polston on April 3, 1946. Together the two were married 65 years and shared three daughters named Patricia, Rebecca and Kathy. Throughout his life, France worked as a Journeyman Drill Operator for Olofsson Corporation in Lansing, Michigan where he retired after 22 years. He was a lifetime believer of the Baptist Faith, and a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN.
France and Selma shared three grandsons, four granddaughters, and eleven great grandchildren. Great family times brought much joy into their lives.
The family invites their friends to visit Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 in the evening at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. June 27, 2013 at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery located at 7931 McCrory Lane Nashville, TN 37221 with Roger Carr officiating. Chris Carr and Troy Carr will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He is survived by his daughters: Patricia and Roger Carr of Charlotte, Michigan, Kathy and Lewis Decker of Columbia, Tennessee; grandchildren: Troy Carr, Chris Carr, Wade Crandell, Shantel Scott- Fulton, Persephone Clover, Danielle Carr, Amberly Kaylor; eleven great grandchildren and two sisters: Shirley Latour and Stella Green. He is preceded in death by his parents, his seven sisters, and one daughter named Rebecca Merhoff.
