Floy Madalene Scott Becraft, age 96, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022, in her home in Columbia, Tennessee.
Madalene was born June 9, 1925, to the late Leo Scott and Hattie Spees Scott in Downing, Missouri.
At the robust age of 96, Madalene has seen many historical events happen right before her very eyes. From the Great Depression to WWII to witnessing man land on the moon to the Internet being born. She has first to go through the up and downs that America has overcome in nearly the last century.
From a young age, she has many memories of growing up on a farm and attending school when they were schoolhouses. When she graduated high school, she immediately took a teacher’s exam and passed with flying colors and became a schoolhouse teacher herself and took pride in expanding the young minds of her students. When the love of her life came home from war, they married and cherished 50 years together. Madalene dedicated her time as a homemaker and raised two sons and a daughter in Illinois. When her husband retired, they finally settled in Columbia, Tennessee.
She was an excellent cook and was gifted with the talent of embroidery and sewing, which her children now cherish the works of art she leaves behind and remembers the meals that filled their bellies. Madalene was devoted to her Christian faith and proudly taught 5th grade Sunday School for 30 years.
She attended First Baptist in Lockport, Illinois for a long while until they settled in Columbia and became a part of a new church family with Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive family and friends Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Ms. Madalene will be laid to rest in the Garden of Luke at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Madalene is the last of her generation on both sides of her family. In addition to her many family members, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Gene Becraft; son, David Becraft; and son-in-law: Ron Burger.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Gene Becraft and Janell Williamson; grandchildren: Becky Fannin, Brian Becraft, Heidi Lovett, and Randy Burger; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Alaina, Maddy, and Emily; and several nieces and nephews.
