Florence "Betsy" Elizabeth Kirby

It is with deep sorrow and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Florence “Betsy” Elizabeth Kirby, a beloved resident of Columbia, Tennessee, who left us on July 19, 2024. Betsy was born on December 18, 1942 and was cherished as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a cherished friend to many.

Betsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Kirby, who passed away in 2021. Their love and devotion to one another were a testament to the strength and beauty of a lifelong partnership.

A woman of boundless creativity and kindness, Betsy had a passion for crafts that defined much of her life. She found joy in woodworking, sewing, painting, stained glass, quilting, and embroidery. Her hands created beauty and her heart touched the lives of those around her. Whether she was making a quilt for a loved one or crafting a piece of stained glass, her work was always infused with love and care.

Betsy is survived by her two sisters Lucy and Martha, two daughters, Kathryn Kirby and Cheryl O’Leary (Dan), who were the pride and joy of her life. Her legacy also lives on through her grandchildren: Sarah, Joseph, Patrick (Kirsten), Timothy, Haze, and Jade as well as her great-grandchildren Nyla and Teagan. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in watching them grow and thrive.

Preceded in death by her sisters Patsy and Anna Katherine, and her brothers Charles Sola, Billy, Johnny, and Page.

A warm and welcoming spirit, Betsy never met a stranger. Her kindness, generosity, and infectious smile made her a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Betsy’s spirit will continue to shine through the love of her family, the beauty of her creations, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness.
