Mrs. Esther Duncan Roddy, 98, a long time resident of Locust Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, April 11 at NHC/Columbia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roddy will be conducted Monday, April 14, 2008 at 3:00 P.M at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Eugene Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 12 :00 noon until 3 :00 pm at the funeral home.
The Hampshire native was the daughter of the late Oscar Doyton and Aqvilla Ophelia Peery Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Lewis Roddy, Sr. Mrs. Roddy graduated from Hampshire High School where she was a star basketball player. Mrs. Roddy was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Roddy is survived by two sons, Joe Lewis Roddy, Jr. of Columbia and Edward "Tot" Brenda Roddy of Mt. Pleasant and two daughters: Joyce Walter Marlin and Jean Ann Riley both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Cindy Keith Rector of Columbia, Cheryl Michael Allen of Hohenwald, Lynn Jason Smith of Lawrenceburg, Marty Sheila Roddy and Tony Amanda Roddy both of Mt. Pleasant, Sandy Gene Foster of Summertown and Donna Tommy Jones of Mt. Pleasant; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and several nephews and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Garfield Duncan, Graham Duncan, Clarence Duncan, R. E. "Happy" Duncan and John Duncan: a sister: Mattie Duncan Golden.
Pallbearers will be Charles Duncan, Jimmy Attkisson, Lonnie Daniels, Brandon Roberts, Bobby "Sodi" England and Tommy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. Duncan, Joe Dayton, Keith Rector, Michael Allen, R.E. Duncan and members of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
