Mr. Ervin Cooper, 82, a resident of Owen Avenue in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at his home following a long battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig?s Disease.

Funeral services for Mr. Cooper will be conducted Friday, February 10, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Brother Curtis Dowdy and Brother Johnny Mack Young officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 pm and from 12:oo noon until service time on Friday.

Born in Addison, Alabama, he was the son of late Kennon Judson and Cora Lee Parker Cooper and husband of Gladys Dorton Cooper, who he was married to for over 59 years. He was a paint and hardware salesman for Martin and Vaughn until 1969 and with Shapard Lumber Company until his retirement in 1995 and worked part time at Evers and Jones Realty. He was a sergeant in the US Army during WWII and a member of the Highland Avenue Church of Christ where he served as deacon, chairman of the benevolent committee and was a Sunday school teacher for over 25 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Elmer Pauline Cooper, Vince Cooper and Elaine Wally Rash, all of Columbia, TN: grandchildren, Brian, Joshua and Ashley Cooper, all of Columbia, TN: two brothers, Alva Cooper of Madison, TN and Dalton Cooper of Memphis, TN: numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cooper, two sisters and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Cooper, Scott Gandee, Charles Norwood, Tim Rummage, Landon Rummage, David Heithcock, Tommy Pilkinton and Phillip Evers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cyril Evers, Grover Hammond, Ronnie Curtis, Bill McEwen, Aubrey Carter, past and present elders and deacons of Highland Avenue Church of Christ, Dr. R. Douglas Kennedy, Dr. Lucy Y. Ledbetter, past and present employees of Shapard Lumber Company and Darlene Baxter.
