Mr. Ernest W. Knowles, 84, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at his residence on First Avenue in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Mr. Knowles will be conducted Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Vernon Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post # 10. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 until 9:00 P.M. funeral home with a masonic service being held at 7:00.
The Maury County native was the son of the late Jessie N. and Lilly Vandella Flowers Knowles. He was the husband of Helen Louise Hall Knowles of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Knowles served in the United States Army for 4 years, 2 months and 10 days and was a veteran of World War II. After the war he went to work in the lab at Victor Chemical Company in Mt. Pleasant which later became Stauffer Chemical, he worked as an analyst in the lab until he retired, then was asked to return on a part-time basis which he did. He was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ and was a Masonic Member for over fifty years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Knowles is survived by two daughters, Sandra Sue Doug Knowles Burns of Columbia, and Teri Ann Bobby Knowles Nolen of Summertown; two sons, Gary M. Knowles and Edwin D. Knowles, both of Mt. Pleasant; a grandson, Michael L. Christina Knowles of Columbia; two granddaughters, Beth Marie Jim T., II Hamilton of Columbia and Angie C. Guy Ragsdale of Mt. Pleasant; four great grandchildren, John Travis Hamilton and Zachary Michael Knowles both of Columbia, Karol Ann Knowles and Tyler Ragsdale both of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Knowles Jett of Lynnville and Thelma Rebecca Knowles Rush of Mt. Pleasant; a very special family member and friend, Janice Carol Jones of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ray Knowles; three sisters, Nina Knowles Pogue, Sarah Pauline "Polly" Knowles, and Bobbie Vandella Knowles; two brothers, Willie Ray Knowles and Thomas Tyree Knowles.
Pallbearers will be Mike Knowles, Perry Hall, Thomas Neeley Edwards, Larry Pogue, David Jett, Charles Jett, and Bobby Nolen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hull, Jimmy Goodloe, Curtis Riley, Mike Pruitt, Bill Cocke, Bob Creech, and Wayne Boshers.
