Ernest S. Clymer

Mr. Ernest S. Clymer, age 79, a resident of Carters Creek Pike in Columbia, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Clymer will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Rev. Ezell Rose officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

The Clymer family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.

Born February 22, 1931 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Howard and Frances Lee Clymer. Ernest was married to Mary Lou Green Clymer for 61 years. He was retired as a contractor and superintendent with Sharondale Construction Company in Brentwood. Mr. Clymer built Whitthorne Middle School and Dickson County High School. He did all the concrete work at the State Capital in Nashville. He not only built the Old Hickory Dam, but he also built other dams in the United States. He constructed the Salt Mines in Morgan City, Louisiana. Ernest loved going and watching his grandsons play football for the Columbia Central Lions. He only missed one football game in all the years he went to see the Lions play. He loved watching old western movies on TV. Ernest loved planting a vegetable garden, in which he would share his harvest with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing. Mr. Clymer was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Columbia.

In addition to his wife, he was the father of four daughters, Julie Billy Allen of Raleigh, N.C., Theresa Barker of Columbia, Sandra James Linam of Murfreesboro and Paula Vance Belew of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Alisha Allen and Stephanie Jeff Meier both of Raleigh, N.C., Gary Crystal Barker of Columbia, Patrick Cherie Linam of Murfreesboro, Jonathan Amy Linam of Fairbanks, A.K., Lucas Linam of Murfreesboro, Bryant Belew and Eric Belew both of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Allen and Jarrett Meier both of Raleigh, N.C.; and his sister, Mildred Howell of Spring Hill. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Clymer, Raymond Clymer, Carl Clymer and two sisters, Marie Gentry and Patsy Green.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Allen, Jim Linam, Vance Belew, Bryant Belew, Eric Belew, Lucas Linam, Patrick Linam, Jonathan Linam, Gary Barker and Jeff Meier. Honorary pallbearers will be all the members of the Riverview Baptist Church of Columbia.
