Mr. Ernest Newton Thomason, 72, died Friday, October 4, 2002 at his residence on Parkway Avenue in Columbia.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomason will be conducted Monday, October 7, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Randy McNeece officiating. Burial will be in the Knob Creek Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Claude C., Sr. and Nettia Mae McKennon Thomason. He was the husband of Alta Mae Reed Thomason of Columbia. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Maury County Highway Department and former employee of Farmer Construction Company at Monsanto. He was a member of the Spencer Hill Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a sister, Dorothy Fay Jerrry Allen of the Mt. Joy Community; three brothers, Claude C. Thomason, Jr. of the Mt. Joy Community, Edward Thomason of Summertown, and Robert Thomason of Murfreesboro; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Dycus and Dena Foster; two brothers, David Thomason and Ulna Thomason.

Pallbearers will be Paul Reed, Harold Reed, Raymond Reed, Jerry Allen, John Wright, Forace Chapman, and Jimmy Sherrill. Honorary pallbearers will be John Beard, Billy McNeece, James Reed, David Reed, Charles Dale, R.L. Cummins, Buck Reed, nephews, men of Spencer Hill Church of Christ, Dr. Thomas Dake and Staff, former employees of Farmer Construction Company at Monsanto, and employees of Hospice of the Highland Rim.
