Erma Ruth Tilghman, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Tilghman was born June 26, 1939 in Mount Holly, New Jersey, the daughter of the late H. Russell Newell and Ruth Eckman Newell. She was the wife of the late Malcolm E. Tilghman, Jr. Erma had worked as the manager of the credit union and in the health care field with Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ. She was a member and taught Sunday School for many years at the Vincentown United Methodist Church in Vincentown, NJ.S he was very involved in the Mount Holly community. She was on the Mount Holly Fire Commission. She ran the Little League Concession Stand for the Mt. Holly Little League and the Rancocas Valley Patriots Football. She coordinated numerous fundraisers for the Virtua Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 6:00 P.M. at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Rev. John Harris officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Vincentown Methodist Church Cemetery in Vincentown, NJ. The family will visit with friends at the church on Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
Survivors include her children, Glen (Melissa) Tilghman of Columbia, Denise (Joseph) Crain of Mt. Holly, NJ, and Andrew Tilghman of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Scott (Carissa) Tilghman of Columbia, Ryan (Paige) Tilghman of Shelbyville, TN, Kyle Tilghman of Columbia, and Brittney Tilghman of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Tylar Crain of Mt. Holly, NJ and Jasee Rae Tilghman of Columbia; one brother, Roland (Janet) Newell of Columbus, NJ; nephew, Michael (Christine) Newell of Florence, NJ and niece, Kimberly (Christopher) Snively of Roebling, NJ; great-nieces and nephews, Rachel Snively, Kelsey Snively and Nichols Snively, al of Roebling, NJ and Haley Newell of Florence, NJ; one brother-in-law William Tilghman of Jobstown, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Pallbearers will be Scott Tilghman, Ryan Tilghman, Kyle Tilghman, Joseph Crain, Michael Newell, Christopher Snively and Tylar Crain. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult class of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church taught by Carl Leland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.
