Mr. Elmer C. Gray, age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Gray was born on January 27, 1934 to the late Walter and Evie Tidwell Gray in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He was a 1953 graduate of Summertown High School. He worked at Stauffer Chemical Company for 36 years and was retired from the maintenance department. Mr. Gray was a member of the Summertown Baptist Church.
Elmer is remembered by his loving daughter as a fighter. He had overcome both a severe injury and a life threatening illness in his past, but fought hard and won the victory over both of them. He imparted wisdom as many fathers do, but the thing she appreciates the most is his life mantra to, “just take one day at a time”. Everyone who knew him knew how special he was. People just admired him.
In addition to his parents, Elmer is preceded in death by his beloved wife: Melany Wilburn Gray; two sons: Carson and Ronnie Gray; two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his only daughter: Debbie Keeton of Summertown; granddaughters: Heather Stewart of Pulaski and Amanda Stewart of Summertown; great-granddaughter: Samiah Herrera of Summertown; a sister-in-law: Trudy Moore of Lawrenceburg; two special nephews: Tharon and Scott Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
