Mrs. Elizabeth McFerrin Walsh, age 88, of Birmingham, AL, a former resident of Fredricksburg, VA for many years, passed away Friday, February 13, at Mount Royal Towers in Birmingham, AL.
Graveside services for Mrs. Walsh will be conducted Monday, February 16, at 2:00 P.M. at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, TN with Reverend Phillip Wright officiating.
The family and friends will visit on Monday from 1:00- 1:45 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
The Mt. Pleasant native was the daughter of the late Dr. James A. and Annie Hall Acuff McFerrin. Mrs. Walsh attended Huntingdom College, in Montgomery, Al and graduated from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN. She later received her Masters Degree from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Walsh taught English at Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant , TN, Maury School in Fredericksburg, VA and Mt. Vernon High School in Alexrandia, VA. She was a teacher's teacher who dearly loved teaching.
Mrs. Walsh was a member of the American Association of University Women and a member of the Bridge Club and Garden Club. She was a member, of the Fredricksburg United Methodist Church, where she was a board member and taught Sunday School for many years.
She is survived by her children: James Franklin Walsh Peggy and her twins: Douglass Ann Hovey Robert and Margaret Elizabeth Walsh all of Birmingham, Al; one sister: Virginia Douglass Fisher of Carrollton, GA; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. She was a dedicated mother and will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
Pallbearers will be David Walsh, Patrick Walsh, Joseph Kraus and Robert Hovey.
