Mrs. Elizabeth Jewell Baker, age 94, a resident of the Shady Grove Community, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008 at her residence.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Stan Butt officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Stand Cemetery in Hickman County.
The family will visit with friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The Hickman County native was the daughter of the late Richard Smith Jewell and Janie Alderson Jewell. She was the wife of the late Ellis "Hap" Baker who preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Baker taught school in Hickman County for several years. She was a member of the rose Society and was well known for her roses. She was a member of the Shady Grove Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Survivors include one brother: Richard Sara Jewell of Columbia; two nephews: Ricky Jewell and Johnny Jewell, both of Columbia; a close friend: Jean Shelby of Shady Grove and cousins: Ward C. Beasley, Gloria Cowan, Lavinia Bell and Ruth Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Jewell, Smith Jewell, Roy Cochran, Joe W. Shelby, Randy Garrett, Jimmy Bennett and David Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Ed Hooten, Doug King, Jane Marita, Lynn Johnson, Cele Durney, Nina White, Dr. Thomas Farmer and members of the Shady Grove Church of Christ.
