Mrs. Elizabeth Hinshaw Smith , 96, peacefully passed away Sunday June 13 at her son's residence on Deer Hunters Lane in Prospect, TN.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia, OH. Inurnment will be in the National Veterans Cemetery in Alexandria, VA.
Born July 27, 1913 in Wirtz, VA , she was the daughter of the late Charles and Barbara Wray Hinshaw and the wife of the late Paul Charles Smith. She graduated from the Blackstone School for Girls Virginia Tech College in Blackstone, VA. She was a veteran of the US Navy, served in Washington, DC during WWII, and retired from a nursing career in Dayton, OH.
She is survived by her son: Gary G. Smith and his wife A. Katharine Kiss of Prospect; step children: Edwin Joan Smith of Oregon, IL, Richard Jean Smith of West Milton, OH, Terry Smith of Tipp City, OH, Zola Lou Schnelle and Norman Smith, both of Vandalia, OH; grandson: Brian C. Smith of Orrstown, PA; step grandchildren: Deborah Brandon Starkey of Kearneysville, WV, Samantha Chad Mowery of Orrstown, PA and Jeremy Michelle Kelso of Shippensburg, PA; 6 step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved sister: Lucia Lee Davis of Kettering, OH. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Walter, James, Joseph and Mesh Hinshaw; three step daughters: Carol Temple, Suzanne Balwin and Jacqueline Wonderlick.
