Eleanor Joyce Thompson

July 15, 1939 — December 29, 2015

Mrs. Eleanor “Lulu” Joyce Thompson, age 76, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee passed away at her residence on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.

Joyce is the daughter of W. A. “Bully” Cummins and Hazel Brawner Cummins and was born in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee on July 15, 1939. She graduated from Hay Long High School. She married Billy Roy Thompson on November 16, 1956 and they built a wonderful life together, raising three children and having many grandchildren and great-grandchildren over 59 years. One of her habits over the years was to call and check on everybody in the family each night to make sure they were ok. She loved them all so dearly.

Joyce worked at several retail stores in Mt. Pleasant over the course of her life including: Bob’s Shoe Store, Bailey Drug Store and Rite Aid. She loved being a pharmacy tech and helping the folks in town. She also loved to have fun. She and her husband Bill Roy were members of a group of folks who loved to ride their Goldwing Motorcycles together. Her sharp wit was evident when an animal once ran out in front of them and she declared that she was smart enough to know when to quit riding, but Billy Roy wasn’t. They also were members of the Ranger Club. The family remembers how much she loved her dog, Molly and that it was a rule that no one was allowed to “get on to” Molly. She loved her church family at Locust Street Church of Christ.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband: Billy Roy Thomspon of Mt. Pleasant; children: Teresa Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, Mike (Angie) Thompson of Summertown, Ricky (Karen) Thompson of Columbia; grandchildren: Lori (Troy) Smith, Mary Allison Nichols, Daniel (Ashley) Thompson, Bridget (Tyler) Boshers, Rodney Sanders, Amber Owens, Tara (Austin) Simmons; great-grandchildren: Chloe Smith, Mollee Elizabeth Smith, Peyton Smith, Cullen Daniel, Tripp and Trenton Thompson, Katelyn Sanders, Leiley and Lilah Owens, Landry, Lochlan and Lenox Simmons; brother: Kenny (Betty) Cummins; beloved dog: Molly; special cousin: Linda Clark; special nephews: Keith Cummins, Kent Cummins and Michael Foshee; uncle: Claude (Faye) Brawner; brother-in-law: Wayne (Ellen) Thompson; special little friend: Kaylor Jacobs, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: W. A. “Bully” Cummins and Hazel Brawner Cummins; and son-in-law: Jack Nichols.
