Eleana Hicks McCoy, age 85, resident of Benton Hall, passed away on Sunday, November 25, at her residence.
Eleana was born May 20, 1933 in Summertown, TN, the daughter of the late Opril and Peggy Barnett Hicks. She was the wife of 43 years of the late Charles “Jerry” McCoy, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Eleana was a realtor for a number of years with White-Woodard Realty. She was a member of the DAR, Colonial Dames, Jamestown Society, and the Magna Charta. She and Jerry traveled the world with his job, the most memorable time spent living in Basrah, Iraq. Eleana was an avid bridge player enjoying a lifetime of playing duplicate and contract bridge; her favorite being her standing Wednesday game of almost 30 years at Graymere Country Club. She spent many years as a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Karen (Charles) Bryan of Greenville, NC, Michael (Susan) McCoy of Houston, TX, and Kimberly (John) Curran of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Brittany Bryan of New Bern, NC, Rebecca Bryan of Boone, NC, Lt. John Michael (Hannah) Curran of Oklahoma City, OK, Lt. Matthew Curran of Seoul, South Korea, and Kaitlyn Curran of Auburn, AL; one sister, Dorothy Jean “Dot” (Edward) Price of Acworth, GA; a sister-in-law, Linda McCoy. Eleana was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Nell Russell; brother-in-law, Lindell McCoy and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pansy (Irick) Poe.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Tom Wilson officiating and Michael McCoy an memorializing her life. Entombment will follow in the Private Estate Mausoleum in the Arbors at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bryan, John Curran, Roger Russell, Timothy Russell, John Michael Curran and Matthew Curran.
