Elbert Hugh Laws

July 30, 1942 — February 18, 2014

Elbert “Elb” Hugh Laws, age 71 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 18, 2014.

Elbert was born to his late parents, James Robert and Florine Shelton Laws. He was in the United States Army where he served three years. He worked with heavy equipment and was a scraper operator. Elb loved playing cards and watching wrestling. He also loved riding by his favorite place, Arrow Lake. Elb was a member of Freedom Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. Laws will be Thursday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Jeff Smith and Bro. David Kersey officiating. Following the services, burial will proceed in Freedom Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, February 19th from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers for the service are the following: Adam Mark Laws, Nicholas Laws, Noah Brown, Chase Laws, Jeff King, Mike Taylor, Curtis Guthrie, Cody Sims, and Calvin Garland. Members of Freedom Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Laws is survived by: his children: Tim (Jeannie) Laws, Mark (Jennifer) Laws, and Kristi Laws (Danny Shaffer); siblings: Roy (Ginny) Laws, Margaret Shrader, Sarah (Bobby) Beckum, Linda ( Wayne) Becham, Mary (Mack) Benefield, and Betty Jo (Morris) King; grandchildren: Adam Mark Laws, Nicholas Laws, Noah Brown, Samantha Barnett, Mary Beth Barnett, Chase Laws, Destiny Laws, and Scarlett Barnhill; one great-grandchild, Layla Mai Sims “LeLe”. Elb was preceded in death by his brothers: James Laws Jr., John Phillip Laws, Bobby Joe Laws, Burl Apollos Laws, and Joseph Franklin Laws.

The family would like to say a special thank you to: Hospice Compassus and Mary Ellen Lemon, RN at Hospice Compassus, Dorina Jackson and Dr. Merced at the VA Clinic, Rena “Renee” Smith, NP, the 3rd Floor Medical Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center, and the Respiratory Department including John Hagan.
