Edward "Steve" S. Kirris III, a man whose life beat to its own unique rhythm, departed this world on July 14, 2024, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, at the age of 73. Born on April 4, 1951, in Hackensack, New Jersey, to the late Edward S. Kirris II and Elizabeth Anne Sparling, Steve's journey through life was as vibrant and dynamic as the music he so dearly loved.
From a young age, Steve’s life was set to a musical rhythm. A devoted drummer, he filled his world with the beats of his drumsticks and the melodies of his favorite artists, especially James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt. He rocked the clubs of New York City in his youth, and his home was always alive with the sound of music, much to the delight (and occasional chagrin) of his children. The walls shook with his passionate drumming, turning every practice session into a mini-concert.
Steve was a maestro of conversation, possessing the charm and finesse of a true "Rico Suave." His wit was sharp, his humor delightfully irreverent, and his outlook on life refreshingly carefree. He was a man who believed in living fully, never shying away from expressing his thoughts with a splash of colorful language. His fiery tenacity and robust spirit made him a formidable presence, a testament to his indomitable will.
In the quieter moments, Steve found solace in the simple joys of life. The open road on his motorcycle, the elegance of vintage cars, the tranquility of boating and fishing, and the comfort of a steaming cup of coffee paired with a freshly lit cigarette brought him profound contentment. Yet, it was his family that truly illuminated his world. The laughter and love shared during family gatherings and holiday celebrations were the moments he cherished most deeply.
Steve's life was an odyssey, weaving through the landscapes of New Jersey, Minnesota, Kansas, and ultimately Tennessee, each chapter adding richness to his storied existence. His adventures and experiences crafted a life brimming with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children: Zach (Arwin) Kirris, Heather (Matt) Hanson, Amanda (Justin) Lampe, Stephanie (John) Sevier, Matt (Maria) Smith, Alex (Briana) Kirris, and Trey Kirris; his grandchildren: Elijah, Ariel, Connor, Hope, Adeline, Parker, Tommy, and Brody; his sisters: Karen Smith and Kathy Martin; his uncle: Anthony (Helen) Santucci; his neighbors: Mr. & Mrs. Yates; and his loyal furry companion: Babycakes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Steve’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made in Steve’s name to Kids Place, Children Advocacy Center, Center of Hope, King's Daughters, Abigail's Plan, and AADP.
Though the world may be quieter without Steve’s drumbeats, the echoes of his remarkable life will resonate in our hearts forever. Farewell, Steve, and may your spirit continue to rock on.
