Rev. Edgar “Earl” Watson, age 78, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by loving family in Columbia, TN.
Earl was born in Schlater, Mississippi, February 5, 1936 to the late Monroe and Rassie “Littleton” Watson. He completed his education with a double major at Baptist Theological Seminary in Graceville, FL. Following his schooling, Earl worked for many years as a sales manager and insurance rep. selling for multiple companies. He also served as a Southern Baptist minister for 44 years, preaching the word in Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama, before retiring for health reasons. He enjoyed spending his spare time cheering on either the Atlanta Braves or the Alabama Football Team. Earl was a compassionate man with a real heart for serving God. He was a joy and inspiration to be around. He truly loved his family and to his daughter he was a “Super Hero.” Earl will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Earl is survived by: his wife of 60 years; Margaret Edythe “Smith” Watson; daughter: Ann (Daryl) Carter; son: James E (Sue) Watson; 2 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 2 step grandsons, 2 step granddaughters and 14 great grandchildren. Sisters: Lou Pearson and Doris Rushing, and a sister in law: Gean Watson.
Services will be held Friday, January 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. Rev. Rick Elsey will be officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery in Cornersville, TN. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 8th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Pallbearers will be Friends and Family.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Westend Baptist Church Columbia, TN.
