Dovie Jean Lyles

Dovie Jean Lyles passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at NHC Columbia after an extended illness and battling Parkinson’s Disease for several years.
Dovie Jean was born on September 21, 1942, to the late Porter and Dovie (Gibson) Hammox of Columbia. She graduated from Central High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation, she began a lifelong career at Columbia Power & Water Systems where she retired after 56 years of dedicated service.
Dovie Jean was married to her devoted husband, the late Edward A Lyles, Jr. for 58 years. She is the mother of two children, Jennifer Gay (Jimi) Williams of Spring Hill, TN, and Jason Edward (Rachel) Lyles of Columbia, TN. She is also blessed with four wonderful grandchildren: Christian Williams, Jaycie Lyles, Elijah Williams, and Rhett Lyles.
She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Prince; sister-in-law, Carolyn Myatt; nephews: James Owen Prince, Todd Prince, Damien Prince, Chad Prince, Eddie Roland; and her niece, Karla Roland. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Marion Roland.
Dovie Jean was a talented and gifted creative. She loved machine embroidery, sewing, painting, and every kind of arts and crafts imaginable. She taught us that there are no mistakes in art, only opportunities for discovering a different approach.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Morning Pointe of Columbia and NHC Columbia for their dedicated service and care for Dovie Jean.
A visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia on Sunday, January 15, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. To follow, Dovie Jean will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Garden of Matthew at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Christian Williams, Elijah Williams, Damien Prince, Chad Prince, Jerry Corvin, and George Stofel.
Honorary Pallbearers are James Prince, Todd Prince, Eddie Roland, and Columbia Power and Water Systems.
