Douglas Virgil Wood

Mr. Douglas Virgil Wood , 55, a resident of Hodge Road in Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be conducted Saturday, March 27, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Retired Navy Chaplin Bob Adair and Reverend Matthew Wood officiating. Burial will follow at the Blowing Springs Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday from 2:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home. The Retired Naval Fleet of Columbia will conduct a Military Honor Service on Friday at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Wayne County, Michigan native was the son of the late Douglas Virgil, Sr. and Margaret Hodge Wood. He retired from the United States Navy and was a truck driver for Transport America. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Dearborn Heights, Mich.

He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Kenneth Owen of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Michael Melissa Wood of Louisville, Ky. and Christopher Shelia Wood of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Shelia Moore of Mt. Pleasant; five grandson, Tyler Owen, Kyle Owen, Chris Wood, Jr. and Corey Wood, all of Mt. Pleasant, Gabriel Wood of Louisville, Ky.; two granddaughters, Halley Owen of Mt. Pleasant and Kayla Hurn of Arizona; a step-grandson, Dillon Grove of Louisville, Ky.

Pallbearers will be Vicky Wood, Mark Hodge, Nicky Hodge, Jackie Owen, Shane Miller, Richard Davis and George Asbury. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Moody, Jr., Gary Wood, Bill Wood, Ronnie Wood, Howard Wood, and Wayne Pierce.
