Mrs. Dorothy Haston Frierson, a resident of Oakwood Drive in Columbia, passed away on Saturday, March 29, at Life Care Center of Columbia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frierson will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with Rev. Bill Williamson and Rev. Maggie Beamguard officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia and Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time of service at First Presbyterian Church.
The Columbia native was the daughter of the late Albert Lee and Naomi Estes Haston and the wife of the late J. Dawson Frierson, Jr., whom she married in 1942. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Judson College in Marion, AL.
She was active in the affairs of both community and First Presbyterian Church for many years. Community memberships include James K. Polk Association, the Maury County chapter of the A.P.T.A., Volunteer and Columbia Garden Clubs, and the Tennassee Chapter of the D.A.R. Outside the community she was a member of the Hermitage Ladies Association. She was also a former elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Frierson is survived by her daughter: Mrs. Mary Howard Frierson Dale Shelton of Columbia; her grandson: Michael D. Musgrove of Smyrna; sister-in-law: Gaither Frierson Gray of Columbia; brother-in-law: John Logan Baker, Sr. of Columbia; cousin: Martha Matthews of Columbia; nephews: Daniel R. Susie Gray III of Stockbridge, MA, John Dawson Frierson Sue Gray of Columbia, L. Rainey Chrissie Gray of Franklin, Jefferson Gaither Gray of Union Grove, AL, John Logan Bobbie Lou Baker, Jr. of Columbia, Albert Sidney Lynn Baker of Raleigh, NC and Robert L. Baker of Chattanooga.
Pallbearers will be John Dawson Frierson Gray, L. Rainey Gray, Jefferson Gaither Gray, John L. Baker, Jr., Albert S. Baker, Turner Matthews, William F. Rainey III and Gary Hamburg. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph Barr, Dr. William G. Fuqua, J. Logan Baker, Buddy Fisher, Dr. Harold Pryor, George Spain, Wick Halliday, Rufus Ross, Beverly Douglas and the elders and deacons of First Presbyterian Church.
