Dorothy Edwards Murphy, age 88, a resident of Park Drive in Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at NHC/Hillview.
Funeral services for Mrs. Murphy will be conducted Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Buddy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
Born November 1, 1921 in Columbia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lorena Atkisson Edwards and the wife E.G. "Pete" Murphy, who preceded her in death in 1993. She was a graduate of Columbia Business College. She was a retired secretary for the Maury County Board of Education for over 30 years. Dorothy loved reading, spending time with her friends, sang in the choir at Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and was very active in her church work where she was a member.
She is survived by a son,: Alan Ruth Murphy of Old Hickory, TN; a granddaughter: Kimberly Murphy of Nashville and four grandsons: Thomas Shannon Murphy of Old Hickory, Michael Murphy of Nashville, Wesley Fraley of Columbia and Jason Shannon Fraley of Columbia who is in the United States Air Force; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ennis Fraley.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Thomas Murphy, Michael Murphy, Wesley Fraley, Jason Fraley and nephews, Jeffrey Truelove and Steve Truelove. Honorary pallbearers will members of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
