Dorothy "Dot" Devara Martin

Dorothy “Dot” DeVara Martin, age 87, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at NHC Columbia.

Dot was born October 17, 1929, in Columbia, the daughter of the Lexie Keith Martin and Lula Moore Martin.

Dot was the Salutatorian of the 1947 graduating class of Central High School. She had worked in the bookkeeping department of Nora Mills for over 40 years until her retirement. After her retirement, she continued to work for the Lewisburg Housing Authority for a number of years. She enjoyed reading, being with her family and her dog, Sally. Dot was always willing to help anyone if she could. She was a long time member of the Smyrna Church of Christ.

The family will visit with friends on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

Survivors include one brother, Billy K. (Mary) Martin and one sister, Linda Weaver; nieces and nephews, Billy K. (Rose) Martin, Jr., Brenda (Dr. Robert) McClure, Melanie (Robert) Cothran, and Jeffrey H. (Robin) Weaver; great nieces and nephews, Paul McClure, Shannon McClure, Elizabeth (Ethan) Humphrey and Justin Weaver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Martin and a brother-in-law, Ray Weaver.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of NHC Columbia for their loving care and to Dot’s church family and the Class of 1947. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Smyrna Church of Christ, Southgate Church of Christ, or Columbia Academy.
