Doris Staggs Johnson

January 21, 1931 — April 3, 2008

Mrs. Doris S. "Maw" Johnson, age 77, a resident of Iron Bridge Road in Columbia, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at NHC Columbia following an extended illness of Parkinson's disease.

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. Brandon Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until time of the service at the funeral home.

The Maury Co. native was the daughter of the late Mary Fautt Whidby and step-daughter of George Whidby. She was the wife of 54 years of Carl Johnson who survives. Mrs. Johnson
had worked at Weather Tamer, the Maury County Schools cafeterias and sat with the elderly. Maw Johnson was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to make quilts, go to yard sales and auctions and cook and take care of her family. She was a member of the Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her husband include one son: Calvin Dean Cheryl Johnson of Columbia, one daughter: Lora Carole Jeff Richards of Columbia; grandchildren: Brian Johnson, Sarah Elizabeth Johnson and Karli Suzanne Richards, all of Columbia; one niece: Jane Ferguson and one nephew: Ray Parker, both of Columbia; one aunt: Martha Fautt Gibson; adopted family: Tammy, Dustin and Kyle Delfs of Columbia. She was preceded in death by two sisters: her twin, Alma Jean Morris Staggs and Lela Hill.

Pallbearers will be Will Billington, Marvin Fautt, Mark Richards, Joe Richards, Lee Richards and Kelly Hardaway. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, friends and extended family.
