Doris G. O'Neal

Mrs. Doris G. Mathis O’Neal , age 83, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at NHC Hillview following an extended illness.

Doris was born to Robert Paul Mathis and Ethel Perry Mathis in Gordonsburg, Tennessee on December 15, 1931. She was a graduate of Hay Long High School and went on to graduate from Columbia Business College. During high school at Hay Long, she was the band majorette.

She was the widow of Steve Manuel O’Neal. She was a Christian lady and a long-time member of Graymere Church of Christ.

Mrs. O’Neal was a hard working lady who worked hard all her life. She was a retiree from the Farm Bureau and later a retiree from Local Government as a keypunch operator. This allowed her to maintain her independence which she valued so much.

Doris is survived by her niece: Connie (Ken) Cathey of Columbia; cousins: Linda Garbarina of Columbia, Cynthia Horner of Gallatin, Myra Perry of Gallatin and Phillip Perry of Athens, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mrs. O’Neal will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Jim Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, June 30 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Ken Cathey, Nick Cathey, Don Morrow, Mark Keene, Rick Murphy, Phil Perry, Jimmy Holland and Trey Holland will serve as pallbearers. The staff of the Local Government office will be honorary pallbearers.
