Doris Faye Grooms, age 76, passed away at NHC Columbia surrounded by family Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Doris was born April 16, 1945, in Columbia, TN to the late James Homer and Maggie Pollion Spires.
Doris lived her entire life in Maury County and graduated high school from Central High School. At the age of 18, she married the love of her life Glenn “Danny” Grooms with whom she spent the better part of 57 years. Doris worked at Maury Regional Medical Center for 31 years and retired in 2006. Doris, was quite the firecracker with her red hair and willingness, to tell the truth, even if it was hard to hear. When Doris wasn’t working she loved to play bingo and spend a day shopping. If things worked out she really enjoyed family trips to the beach. She was a long-time member of Porters Chapel Methodist church. Most importantly Doris was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She was a loved member of the Maury County community and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Doris is survived by her husband: Glenn D. Grooms; son: Danny (Michelle) Grooms; grandchildren: Aaron Grooms, Katie Grooms, Justin McNeese, Daniel (Candy) McNeese; great-granddaughter: Bracelynn McNeese; sister: Marcie Keathly sister-in-law: Ellen Spires; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nephews, and nieces. Doris is preceded by her daughter: Tammy Grooms McNeese; siblings: J.P. Spires, Harold Spires, Junior Spires, Marie Pierce, Pauline Pierce, Mattie Dawson, Mary Nelson, and Oella Collins.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 21, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Eddie Watson and Danny Grooms officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, TN.
Pallbearers are: Roy Grooms, Charlie Grooms, Arnold Grooms, Tony Grooms, Aaron Grooms, and Justin McNeese.
Honorary Pallbearers: Daniel McNeese, Larry Pierce, Christopher Spires, James “Little Man” Spires, Eddie Knodel, Brenda Dawson, and Tim Pascall.
Special recognition for their loving care to the staff of NHC Columbia especially: Summar Smith, Bethany Albright, Katie Staggs, Holly Brawner, and Kayla Gray.
