Doris Ann Holt Grimes, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Signature Health Care in Columbia.
Doris was born in Mt. Pleasant on February 10, 1932 to Jim Holt and Susie B. Dale Holt. On April 3, 1950 she married the love of her life, Charles H. “Tink” Grimes, Jr. and was always very devoted to him. He joked that she wouldn’t let him take care of himself at all, and could have done a lot more for himself if she’d only let him. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she was very caring to others as well and was always known for taking care of everyone.
She served as a court reporter for the General Sessions Court in Maury County for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Additionally, she loved her pets very much. She also enjoyed traveling, being in a bowling league and gardening, especially raising beautiful flowers.
Doris is survived by her husband: Charles H. “Tink” Grimes, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; daughter: Teresa Grimes (Mike) Kidd; grandchildren: Chris (La) Kidd and Angela Kidd; sisters: Juanita Thomason of Decatur, AL, Nellie (Billy) Fagan of Lewisburg, TN, Martha Love of Columbia, and Betty Crockrell of Summertown; brothers: JC (Mary Lou) Holt of Mt. Pleasant, Harold (Louise) Holt of Columbia and Jimmy Holt of Columbia; sister-in-law: Patsy Holt of IL; beloved pet: Daisy; special friend: Ann Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Jim and Susie Dale Holt; siblings: Ruby Andrews and Gary W. Holt; three brothers-in-law: Bill Love, Sr., Charlie Nance and Sherril Crockrell; and her nephew: Calvin Boshears.
Funeral services for Mrs. Grimes will be conducted Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with burial to follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
