Doris Beard Wakefield

November 20, 1925 — April 14, 2011

Doris Beard Wakefield was born November 20, 1925 in Santa Fe, TN, the daughter of the late Raleigh F. and Betty Hood Beard. She was a lifelong resident of the Bethel Community. On August 15, 1950 she married Leslie Wakefield who preceded her in death on May 3, 1979.

Doris graduated with her teaching degree from MTSU in 1956 and retired from Santa Fe School. She later also retired from Weather Tamer as office manager. Doris main joy in life was raising and riding her Appaloosa horses. She was a loyal and devoted member of the Bethel Baptist Church in the Bethel Community.

Survivors include one brother, William Elbert Beverly Beard of Columbia; two special nephews: Lee Josie Waldron of Triune and Marvin Waldron of Antioch, a sister-in-law, Myrna Beard and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Lee Grant Waldron and brother, Kinnard Beard.

Mrs. Wakefield passed away on Thursday at NHC/Columbia.

A memorial service for Mrs. Wakefield will be conducted Monday at 12:30 P.M. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Larry Tarkington officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Santa Fe Cemetery.

Mrs. Wakefield's family will visit with friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
