Dora Jean Grimes Mccanless

Mrs. Dora Jean Grimes McCanless was born in Maury County on May 21, 1932, to the late Clarence G. and Ida Rosetta "Rosie" Vandergriff Grimes. On August 20, 1950 she married Alfred Ray McCanless and they had 51 years of a wonderful marriage. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2001. A 1950 graduate of Haylong High School, she worked for the General Sessions Court Part II in Mt. Pleasant and she retired as a deputy clerk in 2001, after 18 years. Mrs. McCanless was a very special homemaker with a passion in life for her family and she was a 9 year cancer survivor. She was a member of the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. McCanless is survived by her daughters: Patti McCanless Cole of Mt. Pleasant and Pam McCanless of Columbia; a granddaughter: Allison Cole Tubby Powell of Mt. Pleasant; a great grandson and her best buddy: Cole Jackson Powell of Mt.Pleasant; a brother: Willard Kathryn Grimes of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law: Allen Faye McCanless of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by a brother: Walton Grimes and a sister: Wilma Behel.
Funeral services for Mrs. McCanless will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2011 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Bob Mullenix and Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Cole Jackson Powell, Tubby Powell, Tony Cole, Sammy McCanless, Steven McCanless, Billy Grimes and Clay Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard & Margaret Norman, Jimmy McClain, Kenny Marlin, Tommy Marlin, Dr. Michael Bobo, Daniel Bobo, Scott Tilghman, Keith Tilghman, Judge Lee Bailey, Judge Jim Hamilton, Chief Tommy Goetz, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Dr. Michael Tyler, Dr. Cummins Couch, members of the Mt. Joy & Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the staff of Hidden Acres Nursing Home, the 1950 graduating class of Haylong High School and the McCanless Trucking Softball players.
