Donald Joseph Schell “Papa”, age 74, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Donald was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 6, 1940 to the late Earl Schell Sr. and Thelma Wheeler. Donald was a hardworking man who worked for Wagner’s Castings for 39 years before retiring. After retirement, Donald went on at the Wal-Mart tire center for seven years. Donald married Betty Jane Thacker and the two shared beautiful life and family for 55 years. Donald was a family man. He adored his grandchildren and wife of 55 years. You could always find Donald with a western book in his hand. Donald had a passion for bowling. He shared his love of bowling with his son and granddaughter. He bowled with his son on team “Outcast” for 29 years in Illinois and bowled with his granddaughter on team “It is what it is” at Galaxy Lanes. Every Friday night for 29 years, you could always find Donald at the bowling alley. Donald often went fishing with his family.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Donald’s life will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the Chapel at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee.
In addition to his loving wife Betty Schell, Donald is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Jeff) Brothers of Lebanon, Tennessee and Terri (Christopher) Todd of Columbia, Tennessee; son Michael (Nancy) Schell of Decatur, Illinois; grandsons Chad Middleton of Hohenwald, Tennessee, Scott Gooden of Columbia, Tennessee and Jesse Michael of Decatur, Illinois; granddaughters Amanda Best of York, South Carolina, Tiffany Todd of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Emily Schell of Tuscan, Arizona, Ashton Schell, Kayln Schell and Alyssa Schell all of Decatur, Illinois, and Christina Nation, Crystal Logan, Melissa Huston, and Nastassja Mills all of Columbia, Tennessee; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Earl Schell Sr. and Thelma Schell; his brother Sonny Schell Jr.; and sister Gaye Black.
