Donald L. Hickman, 79, of Canaan Rd, Mt. Pleasant, passed away March 22, 2013 at his daughter’s home.
Donald was born to the late L.L. and Mary Ruth “Baker” Hickman on May 31, 1933. He married his wife Betty Massey Hickman in 1953. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Donald enjoyed “cutting up” and telling jokes. Along with, gardening, restoring cars, flea markets, raising his cattle, digging postholes by hand, and taking his annual trip with his family to Gulf Shores. Donald worked in the automotive industry as a “body and paint man”, having owned his own shop, “Hickman’s Body Shop”. He was a member of the Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Funeral Service for Mr. Donald L. Hickman will be Monday, March 25th at 11:oo a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Visitation will be Sunday, March 24th, 2013 from 4-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors for Donald include: his wife, Betty Hickman; his daughters, Janice (Mike) Mabry, Sandra (Fred) Selle, Sheila (Larry) Byrd; his grandchildren, Laura Sparkman (Brandon), Martha Peden (Joey), Merri Osborne (Tracy), Anna Grace Howell (Charlie Ray), T.J. Rountree; his great grandchildren, Lillie Kate Peden, Noah Sparkman, Anthony Mason Rountree; Sister, Shirley Cooper and , Brother Pat Hickman. Donald is preceded in death by his infant son Donald Edwin Hickman.
Pastor David Van Wyk will officiate the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Brandon Sparkman, Joey Peden, Tracy Osborne, T.J. Rountree, Randy Workman, and William Massey. Honorary Pallbearers will include, Darrell Potts, Nickey Savage, Rickey Savage, W.C. Johnson, David Clayton, Allen McCanless, Steven McCanless, and Sammy McCanless.
