Donald "Duck" Grooms
July 25, 1949 — June 10, 2009
Mr. Donald "Duck" Grooms, age 59, resident of East 18th Street, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Grooms will be conducted Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 A.M. at Williams Funeral Home of Columbia With Reverend Bob Adair officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 ?9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Born on July 25, 1949 in Maury County, Donald was the son of the late
Robert "Bob" and Maggie Norman Grooms. He was the loving husband of Maxine Beard Grooms for 34 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Dept for 38 years. Donald enjoyed fishing, repairing lawnmowers and very much a prankster.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers and sisters: Bobby Grooms of Columbia, Jimmy Tina Grooms of Mt. Pleasant, Casey Grooms of Murray, KY, Linda Aydelott and Ronald Grooms of Columbia, Leon Rita Grooms of Michigan, Floye Roger Malugin and Joye Danny Davidson of Columbia; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Beckenbach Pigg.
Pallbearers will be Michael Jo Grooms, Richie Grooms, Buddy Grooms, Jeff Grooms, Joey Grooms, Ricky Beckenbach and Jerry Brunson. Honorary pallbearers will be all Employees of the State Highway Dept. D.O.T.
A special thanks to Caris Hospice and special thanks to the Skill Care Unit on third floor at Maury Regional Medical Center.
