Mr. Donald “Don” Raymond Henderson, age 84, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Don was born on September 30, 1931 in Cleveland, Tennessee to the late Glenn A. Henderson and the late Alice Henderson. He was happily married to his loving wife Martha Ann Churchill Henderson for 63 years as of June of this year. He was a man of faith, having served as an elder and Bible teacher in the Church of Christ for over twenty years.
Don had many interests and was a well-rounded man. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer, tennis player and swimmer. He even swam with the Oak Ridge Master Swim Team at one time. He had attended the Tennessee Military Institute in high school. He served honorably in the United States Army and was a Captain, 3rd rank when he left the service. During his time in the Army he worked for the NSA, having an office in the Pentagon. Later, he worked for DuPont Chemical for many years and then for ITT Grinell. He finally retired after working as a purchasing director for the Nuclear Division at Oak Ridge.
Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife: Martha Ann Henderson of Columbia; children: Debbie (Wayne) Tallman of Henderson, TN, Sandi (Scott) Wells of Brentwood, TN and Dr. Donald Taylor (Lynn) Henderson of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren: Brandy L. May, Jason Tallman, Hope Wells, Austin (Jennifer) Henderson and Heather (Matt) Jones; great-grandchildren: Kolton May, Kolby Leigh May, Mason Henderson, Landon Jones and Annalyn Jones.
Funeral services for Mr. Henderson will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. David Morris officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. immediately prior to the service on Tuesday. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, the late Ken Preston and Bettie Preston, the late Judge Fields and Marilyn Fields, all of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, friends from Highland View Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and friends from Highland Church of Christ in Columbia, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Highland Church of Christ Church Building Fund, 497 E James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401.
