Delbert Cary

January 5, 1940 — November 26, 2023

Delbert Cary, born on January 5, 1940, in Tawas City, Michigan, to the late Elmer and Eldrid Cary, passed away on November 26, 2023, in Columbia, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived.

Delbert's early years were shaped by the rural landscapes of Michigan, where he grew up on a farm, fostering a deep connection with nature that would stay with him throughout his life. In his youth, he found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing, passions that would leave him with cherished memories.

A selfless and giving man, Delbert opened his heart and home to all, living by the philosophy that "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet." His hospitality was a testament to his generous spirit, creating a welcoming space where everyone felt like family.

On a fateful blind date, Delbert met the love of his life, Geraldine, and together they shared nearly 62 years of unwavering companionship. Their journey took them from the fields of Michigan to the warmth of Tennessee in 2001, a move made to be closer to their children and build a new chapter in their lives.

Delbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine, their daughter Helen Gordon, and his parents. He is survived by his son Ken Cary, granddaughter Samantha Cary (Dillon Paris), great-grandchildren Rosa Jorgensen (Sven), Camron Middaugh (Allison), Savannah Middaugh (Chance Beltran), and Hazel Smith. Welcoming the newest generation, Delbert became a great-great-grandfather to Serenity Faye Jorgensen.

He is also survived by his brothers, Edmund Cary (Gail) and David Cary (Margaret), who shared in the joys and challenges of life with him.

Delbert Cary's legacy is not only in the love he shared with his family but also in the lessons of generosity, kindness, and the joy of forging connections that will be passed down through generations. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know this remarkable man.
