Debbie Thomason Gibson, 58, passed away following an extended illness on Friday, January 13, 2017, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center in Columbia. Debbie was born in Columbia, TN, and pursued a nursing career for forty years.
She is survived by her sons Justin Mack McKennon and Jerry Matthew Gibson. Debbie is also survived by her mother Jean Thomason of Columbia; sisters Shirley (Jim) Stewart and Lynn (Danny) King, both of Columbia; two brothers Garry (Cate) Thomason of Columbia, and Terry (Carol) Thomason of Mt. Pleasant; three granddaughters Kristin, Jaelyn, and Aaliyah McKennon all of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her firstborn child Jessica Ann McKennon, husband Jerry Gibson, father Claude Clifford Thomason, Jr., brother Rickey Bailey, and grandparents Claude Clifford and Nettie Mae Thomason of Mt. Pleasant, and Audie and Myrtle Huffman of Summertown.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm, at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, with Jim Ledbetter officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of the service.
Debbie graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1976. In 1977, when Debbie became a nurse, she worked at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia 25 years and most recently with home care at Blueridge Home Care, in Fairview. Debbie was passionate about nursing and worked up until the day she was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with cancer eight months ago.
