David Norris Smith

David “Norris” Smith, age 91, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on July 9, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Norris was born on June 29, 1927 in Giles County, Tennessee to the late Charlie and Rozzle Smith. On October 5, 1968 he married his beloved wife, Peggy. Norris was a good, hard working and honest man. He was retired from Monsanto, where he worked for 34 years. He was a fun loving, great friend who was always willing to help anyone in need. Norris enjoyed fishing and boating on the Tennessee River, loved farming and enjoyed bowling.

Norris is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his daughters, Sara Hall and Elizabeth Sowell, both of Columbia; grandchildren: John (Ciara) Sowell, Jack (Jessica) Sowell, Rebecca (David) Gibbs, Fagan (Matthew) Moritz, Laura (Lucas) Hale and Andrew (Brittany) Legg; eight great grandchildren; sister, Sara Smith and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Norris was preceded in death by five siblings.

The family of Norris Smith will visit with friends on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are: Gerald Martin, Perry Pugh, Buddy Martin, John Pugh and retired employees of Monsanto Company maintenance department.
