David S. Travis, age 85, a resident of Sunnyside Lane in Columbia, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at NHC/Hillview.
Graveside services for Mr. Travis will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN with Rick Points officiating.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Born in Nashville, he was the son of the late J.H. and May Long Travis. He was the husband of Christene Hooper Lockhart Travis of Columbia. He was a graduate of UT Knoxville and retired engineer with Dupont He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during WW II. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Old Hickory Blue Lodge #598, Nashville, TN. He was a member of the Old Hickory Bunch and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons: John Henry Travis II of North Augusta, SC; David S. Travis, Jr., of Edgefield, SC and Albert Long Travis of Ervin, TN; four daughters: Linda Catherine Harper of Nashville, Naomi May Ruoff of Sommerset, MI, Florence Ruth Myers of Zachary, LA and Alice Rachel Pinson of Grier, SC; three step-daughters: Francis Elaine Williams of Columbia, Billie Sharon Duncan of Clarksville and Lynn Ellen Gailbreath of Smyrna; eleven grandchildren: Amy Rebecca Travis, Laura Ashley Bonds, Jason Eugene Ruoff, Jamie Sue Ruoff, David Frank Myers, Daniel Luke Myers, James Nathaniel Pinson, Robert Ansel Pinson, Mary Elizabeth Pinson, Summer and Nathan Travis; one great-grandson: Travis Bonds. He was preceded in death by one brother: Billy R. Travis and one sister: Evelyn Crawford.
