David Johnson Lea

February 12, 1947 — March 19, 2005

Mr. David Johnson Lea, 58, a resident of Gray Circle in Columbia passed away Saturday March 19, 2005 at Life Care Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Lea will be conducted Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Frank Wells and Joe Rhodes officiating. Burial will be the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of late, Maurice and Carrie Johnson Lea. He was the husband of Portia Swaim Lea. He was a graduate of MTSU where he received his M.A. Mr. Lea was owner and operator of Lea Construction Company, former owner of Lea?s Cabinets, co-owner of Garages and Moore, former shop teacher at Central High School, Vice president of Columbia Jaycees for two years, member of Columbia Elks Lodge and Columbia Bass Masters, Columbia Automotive Association and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Lea was a long-time member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, David Jay Lea of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Iris Ray Garner of Montgomery, TX and Rita Lea Hamilton of Murfreesboro, TN; a brother, Danny Cindy Lea of Columbia, TN; two step-daughters, Kimberly Dare Brian Sanderson and Shannon Swaim Harris both of Nashville, TN; his grandchildren, Drew Sanderson who is serving in the United States Navy, Elliott Sanderson , Audrey Sanderson, Madison Flowers and Haley Flowers all of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Henrietta Johnson and Robert and Julia Lea.

Pallbearers will be Mark Renfro, Wyman Burns, Charles Ingram, Kenneth Corder, Larry Rummage, Eddie Dalton, Ray Gibson and Dan Rutherford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Brewer, Bobby Payne, Julius Pagel, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Larry Meadors, Terrance Blakesleay and Wayne White.
