David Anthony Doty

Mr. David Anthony Doty of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on March 6, 2013 at Centennial Medical Center. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Doty was the son of the late Mark Doty and the late Margaret Maus Doty. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on October 4, 1942. On May 24, 1961, he married Delores Jean (Stanfill) Doty and they had 3 children together.

Mr. Doty is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Doty; children: Deanna (Jamie) Powell of West Chester, OH, David Eric (Kay) Doty of Columbia, TN and Daniel Edward (Katrina) Doty of Harvest, AL; grandchildren: Alana (Cory) Jacobs, Nathan Doty, Evan (Melyssa) Powell, Erica Navey, Lauren Powell, Ian Doty, Braden Doty, Will Doty and Sam Doty; 4 great grandchildren: Makenna, Audra, Kylah and Jovie Cate; and brother, Mark (Cathie) Doty of Hamilton, OH.

A meticulous and dedicated worker, Mr. Doty was a tool and die maker by trade. He worked for General Motors for over 37 years prior to retirement. During retirement, he could be found tending to his immaculate yard and helping friends and neighbors on various projects.

David was a member of the Trinity Family Church in Columbia. “Poppy,” as he was known to his loved ones, was well-known for his kindness, generosity, and humor. He loved to tell jokes and he never met a stranger. Moreover, David became an “honorary Poppy” to the children at Trinity Family Church. Because of the heart he had for these children, the family requests that, in memory of “Poppy,” donations be sent to the Children’s Ministry at Trinity Family Church, 2628 Leah Drive in Columbia.

Funeral services for David will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Norman Jacobs, Rev. Carol Jacobs and Rev. Dan Doty. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at Trinity Family Church, 2628 Leah Drive, Columbia, Tennessee.

Eric Doty, Evan Powell, Ian Doty, Cory Jacobs, Mike Allen and Mark Doty will serve as pallbearers.
