Darrell Graham, age 41, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a former resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 10, 2014.

Darrell W. Graham, MD Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Sculpted Figures Plastic Surgery Specialist, Myrtle Beach Dr. Graham had over a decade of surgical expertise and acclaimed research to us at Sculpted Figures Plastic Surgery. He began his surgical career at one of the nation’s busiest trauma centers in Memphis, TN; serving as Chief First Assist in his senior year of medical school. Dr. Graham spent five years at the University Of Florida College Of Medicine as a general surgeon chief resident and an additional two years as a plastic surgeon at the prestigious University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas (one of our nation’s most premier and influential plastic surgery and leading research centers). Notably, Dr. Graham spent a year in Taipei, Taiwan at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (the second largest hospital in the world) for a fellowship in micro and reconstructive surgery directly related to his research and humanitarian efforts. Dr. Graham also co-authored several published papers and abstracts as well as numerous cutting edge research models. He presented at over 25 conferences both nationally and internationally on a wide array of topics including extensive research in the fields of trauma, cancer, health-care delivery, cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Dr. Graham held medical licenses in two states, South Carolina and Virginia and was a candidate member with the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He was FLS, ATLS, ACLS, and BLS certified. Dr. Graham received numerous top honors and prestigious surgical and research awards during his medical career.

His work was widely acclaimed in various research presentations and publications. He was the University of Texas Southwestern “Mr. Chips” Research Case of the Year Winner (2011), and the Texas society of Plastic Surgery research winner (2010). He was the (2009) winner of the Platform Award for the University of Florida. Dr. Graham won the University of Florida, Jacksonville Dept. of Surgery’s Life Quest Organ Donation Award (2009) while serving as the departments Administrative Chief. He was recognized as the Surgical Resident of the Year (2008), earned the Pediatric Surgery “Sippy Cup” Award (2007 and 2008), and the Moseley Excellence in Surgical Research, two consecutive years (2006 and 2007). The American College of Surgeons honored Dr. Graham’s outstanding research with pneumonia diagnosis (2005). He was also the winner of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons research award (2006).

During his time at UT, he served as the president of his class and received Outstanding Leadership recognition for his efforts. At Columbia State College he was a Top Ten Graduate, Biology Student of the Year, and Excellence in Physics Award winner (1995). Before finding his passion and success in medicine and beginning his work at Sculpted Figures, Dr. Graham came from very humble beginnings that shaped the way he viewed the importance of family, friends and life. He was a Tennessee native who migrated to North Dakota and then east to New Jersey.

Dr. Graham enjoyed time outdoors, fishing and riding motorcycles, spending time with his family as well as his four legged ones, loved basketball and had also been known to dabble in bit in oil painting and murals. He had a great sense of humor and was very compassionate when it came to his work. His wide range of personal and educational experiences put him in a unique position to relate to his patients on a down-to-earth level, always making them feel very much at ease.

The family will visit with friends on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. The family will celebrate Darrell’s life on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lynnwood Cemetery.
