Daniel Filmore Simmons

Daniel Filmore Simmons, retired from Stauffer Chemical Company as chief chemist and a resident of Mount Pleasant, TN., died Oct 22, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia, TN.

Services will be conducted at Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004 at 1:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. J.C. Christian and Rev. Elmer Crosby officiating. Interment will be Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant, WV with Rev. Carl Dayhoff officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Born June 14, 1920, a native of Point Pleasant, WV, he was the son of the late Holly and Ethel Simmons. After retiring from Stauffer Chemical, he served as a consultant for the city of Mt. Pleasant. A 1944 graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, WV, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, WV and First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TN and served as a Deacon, a member of the choir, and a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. He was active in AARP and taught the ?55 Alive? Driver Education. He was active in Scouting and was a Scout Master for many years. He was a Mason for over 50 years and a past Master.

Survivors include his wife Lota R. Simmons of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Nancy Damon Tondu of Frankfort, MI; three sons, David Carole Simmons of Salisbury, NC, Jim Melinda Davis Simmons of Knoxville, TN and John Barbara Simmons of Houston, TX; one step-daughter, Mary Alice Jerry McKissack of Gulf Breeze, FL.; three step-sons, Joe Kaye Richards, Jeff Lora Richards and Mark Cathy Richards, all of Columbia, TN; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Patrick of Huntington, WV. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Dorothy L. Simmons; a brother, George M. Simmons of Dresher, PA, and a sister, Nellie S. Grimm of Charleston, WV.


Pallbearers will be his grandsons and step-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Murray, Paul Sands, Harvesters Sunday School Class, and Deacons of First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.
