August 31, 1952 — March 9, 2025

Hohenwald

Damon Esco Runyon, born on August 31, 1952, in Salem, Indiana, to Oliver F. Runyon and Lois M. Runyon, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus on March 9, 2025.

As a young boy, Damon moved with his family to Lakeland, Florida, where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Kathleen High School before furthering his education at Polk State College. He built a dedicated career in the food service industry, beginning as a meat cutter at Swift and later serving as a buyer for Mutual Wholesale and US Foods.

At 62 years old, Damon embraced a new chapter of life, retiring to the peaceful mountains of East Tennessee with his beloved wife, June Yarbrough Runyon and his stepdaughter Lauren Jones. There, he found joy in the beauty of nature—cruising winding backroads on his Can-Am Spyder, boating on the water, or simply relaxing in his front yard, listening to the creek while tending to his Traeger and charcoal grill, perfecting the art of smoked meats.

Damon was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, June, and his stepdaughter Lauren Jones (Austin); his mother-in-law, Marinell Yarbrough; his son, Timothy Runyon (Tonia), with their children Lexus Parker, Lanie Runyon Palson (Trevor), and Jadas Runyon; his daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Runyon; and his son, Daniel Runyon (Lisa), with their children Nolan and Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ellen Runyon, and his three brothers, Bill Runyon, Bob Runyon, and Kenneth Joe “KJ” Runyon.

Damon had a generous spirit, a sharp wit, and a love for the simple joys in life. Whether sharing a meal, swapping stories, or caring for his two dogs, he poured his heart into the people and moments that mattered most.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no formal funeral or celebration of life service. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
