Clyde Melvin Denton, age 72, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 27, 2014.
Clyde was born in Culleoka, Tennessee to the late Leland and Nannie Lou Wells Denton on September 24, 1941. Clyde was married to Virgie Adams on June 3, 1962. Clyde had Master’s degrees in Education and Electronics. Clyde worked as the Assistant Director of King’s Daughters’ School. He was a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister. Clyde retired from Columbia State Community College as an associate professor after 30 years. He loved the ham radio and was a founding member of the Maury Amateur Radio Club. He was a very loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and believed in making the needs of his family a priority. He laughed, played, cried, and prayed with his family. Most importantly, he loved and served his Lord Jesus Christ.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, Tennessee. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Kane and Dr. John Cheetham officiating.
In addition to his loving wife Virgie Denton, Clyde is survived by his daughter Deborah K. (Andrew) Neck of Franklin; sons Robert L. (Janice) Denton of Lawrenceburg and William M. (Michelle) Denton of Columbia; granddaughters Ava Neck of Franklin, Loren Holcomb of Centerville, Keegan Harvey of Murfreesboro, Lauren Mays of Lawrenceburg, and Betsy Mays of Memphis; grandsons Henry Neck of Franklin, Blake (Lindsey) Mays of Lawrenceburg and Jamie Mays of Memphis; great-grandsons Logan Mays of Lawrenceburg and Cooper Mays of Lawrenceburg; and great-granddaughter Caroline Mays of Lawrenceburg.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents Leland and Nannie Denton and his brother Bobby A. Denton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be contributed in honor of Clyde to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
