Mr. Cleo R. Long, age 87, resident of Locust St in Columbia, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Long will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 19, 2010 in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Rev. Mike Dawson and Rev. Billy Kimbro officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 to which he was a member

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. 4:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Born March 26, 1923 in Lawrence County, TN he was the son of the late Johnny William and Ella Mae Pinkelton Long. He was the husband of Louise Benefield Long of Columbia. Mr. Long attended Summertown School and was retired from Gibson Oil Co and Johnson Oil as a bookkeeper. In his early years Cleo delivered Dr. Pepper and sold fruit cakes. Cleo was a veteran of World War II and the Army Air Corp. where he received two purple hearts. He loved fishing, loved being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but most of all he loved sharing every day with his wife of 63 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia and also a member Brewer Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Ronnie Sheila Long of Louisville, KY and a daughter: Brenda Bill Nichols of Lawrenceburg, TN; grandchildren: Ronnie Sheril Long, Jr. of McEwen, TN, Morgan Russell Charles and Michael Theresa Long both of Florence, S.C., Becky Justin Phillips of Mc Donough, GA, Jessica Shane Rickman of Lawrenceburg, TN; two brothers: J.T. Korean Long of Pulaski and Carl Eva Long of N.C.; special friends: Jerry and Allene Norman of Columbia, Shirley Robinson of Mt. Pleasant and Allen Salteman of Columbia. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Norman, Ronnie Long, Jr., Michael Long, Doug Fowler, Leon Dickson and Mel Bunch.

Honorary Pallbearers will The Brewer Sunday School Class if First Baptist Church.
