August 24, 1914 — August 18, 2007

Mrs. Clara Ellen Wells Ball, age 92, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Graveside services for Mrs. Ball will be conducted Tuesday August 21, at 2:00 P.M. in the Garden of Matthew at Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Pete Tackett officiating.

Clara was born August 24, 1914 in Mooresville, Tennessee to James Williamson Wells and Lou Inman Wells. As a young woman, she left her farming family with a strong work ethic and strong faith in God. After graduating from nursing school, she married Felto M. Ball. Together, they traveled during much of their careers leaving each town a bit better from their presence. She appreciated the nursing profession and the knowledge she gained from it. While she enjoyed many aspects of her career, she often admitted that caring for newborns was her favorite task. Clara and Felto spent a number of years in Birmingham, Alabama before returning to Columbia, Tennessee to enjoy retirement.

Clara and Felto were very active in the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Clara enjoyed serving the church as well as the community it supported. She was extremely proud of her church family and being a part of the Missionary Baptist Faith. Her belief in and commitment to the First Baptist Church kept her in Columbia until she returned to Alabama to be closer to family members at age 89.

Clara is survived by her son Donald Leisa Ball of Montgomery, AL; granddaughter, Michele Jon Adamson and their children, Abbigail, Sara and Jack of Birmingham, AL; granddaughter, Gaylene Alan Green and her son Chris Boykin of Parttville, AL; one sister, Brownie Edell of Lancaster CA; three nieces, Ramona James Jones of Columbia, TN, Cathy David Balian of Palmadale, CA and Virginia John Justice of Murfreesboro, TN; two nephews, James Catherine Woody of Huntsville, AL and Wayne Deborah Wells of Brentwood, TN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
