Charles P. Smith Jr.

March 17, 1945 — January 22, 2019

Charles P. Smith, Jr. of Columbia passed away on January 22, 2019 at his home at the age of 73 with his family by his side.

Charles was the son of the late Charles P. Smith, Sr. and the late Jewell Newborn Smith. He was a veteran having served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 with an honorable discharge. He was married to Jewel Knolton Smith for fifty-two wonderful years. He was a member of Graymere Church of Christ and served as a deacon with the missions program. He was employed as a Right of Way Manager by the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1964 to 2007 when he retired. He served as president of the TVA Retirees Association from 2008 to 2018 and president of Tennessee Vegetation Management Association from 2000 to 2001.

Charles is survived by his wife; Jewel Smith, son; Chris Smith of Columbia, Tennessee, son; Marty (Robin) Smith of Columbia and two grandchildren; Madison Claire and Lincoln Jackson Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers: Graymere Church of Christ Elders, Graymere Church of Christ Deacons, Royal Dickson, Kyle Young, Tom Knolton, David Knolton and Sam Knolton, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 27th at Graymere Church of Christ at 3:00 PM. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to Graymere Church of Christ Missions Ministry or Columbia Academy.
