Charles Douglas Pruitt

November 1, 1936 — January 21, 2014

Mr. Charles Pruitt, age 77, passed away at Maury Regional Hospital from complications of flu and pneumonia on January 21, 2014.

Charles was born on November 1, 1936 to the late John Thomas Pruitt and the late Myrtle Elizabeth Fuller Pruitt in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. He served honorably in the United States Army in the 1950’s. Charles married his wife, Era Pryne Jones on June 2, 1961 and they had 52 wonderful years and two sons together.

He was well known in the Mt. Pleasant community having owned and operated Pruitt’s Service Center since the mid-seventies after he purchased Mr. Graff’s business. He began his love affair with automotive service work when he was a young man working at Joe Colagrass’ Service Station. He truly loved his shop and especially loved operating it with his family. People could easily recognize his spotless ’72 El Camino, his baby, which was always parked out in front of his shop.

He had a quick wit and was always ready with a humorous remark and loved a snappy comeback. Charles also was a spiritual man, being a member of the Macedonia Church of Christ where he served as the treasurer and song leader.

Mr. Pruitt is survived by his wife: Era Pruitt; son: Jeffrey Guy “Roscoe” Pruitt; grandchild: Paige Leeanne Pruitt; great-grandson: Eli Thomas Pruitt; sister: Allene “Dot” Greenfield; beloved dog: Daisy Mae; Sisters-in-law: Linda Jones and Rebecca (Joe) Duncan; and brothers-in-law: Jonathan (Marti) Jones, Mark (Nancy) Jones, Luke Jones and several nephews and a nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved son: Joel Thomas Pruitt; and brothers: Arch Pruitt and Tommy Pruitt.

The family would like to mention his special friend, Turk Workman, and nephew, Tony Pruitt and his many other friends and their outpouring of love during his sickness. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of Maury Regional’s ICU and CCU during his extended illness.
