Charles L. Smith, Jr.

Mr. Charles L. Smith, Jr., age 84, resident of Longstreet Drive in Columbia, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at NHC-Hillview following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 15, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Randall Sprouse, Terrell Pitts and Don Richey officiating. Interment will follow at the Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville with military honors being provided by the U.S. Army.
The Smith family will receive friends from 4:30 – 9:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Born August 2, 1926 in Giles County, he was the son of the late Charles L., Sr. and Ezella Morton Smith. He graduated from Campbellsville High School. Charles was an army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was retired from Fafnir Bearing Company in Pulaski as a heat treat operator. Charles enjoyed fishing and farming. He loved watching Vanna White on the Wheel of Fortune and everyone knew when it was on, that there was to be no talking. Charles really enjoyed Christmas time with his family especially when it came to opening the gifts. Charles was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Big Creek Church of Christ in the Yokley Community.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Nell Escue Smith of Columbia; two daughters, Debbie Don Richey of Lynnville and Ann Billy Brymer of Pulaski; grandchildren, Dawn Brown of Columbia, Josh Brown of Lynnville, Bonny Brymer and B.J. Brymer both of Pulaski; step-granddaughter, Chloe Richey of Lynnville; brother, Norris Peggy Smith of Columbia; sister, Sarah Smith of Spring Hill and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Smith and two sisters, Martha Rutherford and Nancy Parker.
Pallbearers will be Josh Brown, B.J. Brymer, Steve Rutherford, Chuck Rutherford, Richard Johnson and Parker Francis.
