Charles Edward Hughes, Sr (86) of Summertown, TN., Lawrence County was surrounded by his family went peaceable to his Lord and Savior, and enjoying his heavenly home with Jesus. As a born-again Christian, he left behind many testimonies of his faith and love helping his community, friend and family.
Leaving his wife of 37 years, Brenda J. Hughes; three children: Charles E. Hughes, Jr., Norman L. Hughs, R. Denise Old. Two stepsons: Christopher E. Kammerer, Jeremy R. Kammerer. Eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. One brother: Delmar Travis Hughes, one sister: Linda Faye Smith. Several nieces, nephews, cousins great & grand. Charles was one of ten brothers and sisters. He is preceded by his parents, Robert L. Hughes, Sr. and Trannie L (Smith) Hughes, three brothers: Robert L. Jr., Willam H, Hurbert Harvey Hughes. Four sisters: Ava Neil Mudse, Imogene Giles, Barbara Ann Eves, Shella Koing. First wife: Alice M (Smith) Hughes of twenty-four years.
He was a veteran of the United States Army in the 1960’s, with the honor for God and Country. In the 1950’s, he worked at Murry Ohio in Lawrence County for four years. He retired after thirty years with Foundry Caterpillar. As a missionary, he traveled sharing the love of God from Haiti and across the USA. He found time helping others even when he was busy. Moments would arise that he would see a need and he would go for it. It was in him to do so. He was a great man of God.
